Blonde Album Review

My favorite album of all time that has heavily impacted my life is the Blonde album by Frank Ocean. I started listening to this album in middle school and fell in love with all of the songs. I know almost every lyric to every song in the whole album. My favorite song has to be White Ferrari because it was the song that made me get into listening to music more and discovering the album. Then I would have to rate Ivy and Nights as second and third favorite. Ivy was my number one on Spotify in 2022 and White Ferrari was my number one in both 2020 and 2021. This past year (2023) was the first year in 4 years that Frank Ocean was not my number-one artist but it was mostly because I started listening to new, different artists. However, he was still second and will forever be one of my top artists. I vividly remember writing an entire essay on White Ferrari and analyzing every lyric for a project in 9th grade. Unfortunately, it was a physical copy and I no longer have it but I now understand the deep meaning behind the entire song. I have put many of my friends on to this album and it is really interesting seeing their love for the artist grow and how many of them have different favorite songs. Some of the other songs that I love from the album include skyline to, solo, pink and white, nikes, self-control, seigfried, and godspeed. All of these songs have a special place in my heart and remind me of different eras and people in my life.

Many people think it is arrogant or weird how Frank Ocean "fell off the Earth" because he no longer drops new music or has concerts. However, I feel that this is a big part of why I love him so much. His careless approach to not listening to society's opinions and following his own destiny makes me so happy for him. Considering how much pressure is put on an artist in the spotlight, I sympathize with his decisions and understand why he is how he is. He still posts Instagram stories occasionally and many of his unreleased songs were released on Spotify from other sources. I believe Frank Ocean's nonchalant act is what makes his fans so special. The dedication to loving an artist that hardly posts or releases new material shows how good, and high quality his already-released music is. I would rate this album a 10/10 because it has special meaning in my life and I truly believe anyone could listen to his music and approve of at least a few of his songs if not fall in love with him as many do.
