My Take on 2023 Fashion Trends

I feel that this was the most evolutionary year of fashion trends. There were a lot of new fashion trends, especially this year, considering I am now old enough to participate and notice these trends through social media platforms. I also feel that this year was very trend follower based and every time a new trend was started, I would see the trend literally everywhere and all over social media. There were some trends I loved and some that I hated and I think were overrated. Starting off with Crocs, Crocs are timeless and have been making a comeback year after year. But it is not Crocs in general, it is more so when people wear Crocs with a good outfit. I fully understand having a trusted pair of Crocs lying around to run errands or to wear with a lazy day outfit at the very least. But I think Crocs are overrated in terms of an everyday shoe that is paired with every outfit. Another trend that I think was overrated was the Dior lip oil. Unfortunately, I fell victim to the hype of this product which was practically every video on my TikTok FYP. However, this product did not live up to my expectations and is extremely overpriced and the feel and last of the lip gloss is worse than most drug store lip products I have tried. You are much better off saving $40 and getting an Elf or NYX product. Another makeup product that I think has got to go is the Charlotte Tilbury beauty highlighter and bronzer wand. These blew up on TikTok and had a lot of mixed responses. They are priced at a high $42 and a lot of reviews say that there is not a lot of product in these. Additionally, from the reviews I have seen the product does not look very good either. Of course, Elf saved the day by making their own affordable version of these wands that are much more worth it if you are looking to try one of these products and you can save about $30 in the process. Jorts and jean skirts were another trend that was not my favorite. There are a lot of examples of jorts and jean skirts that I love but I think there is a limit to the extent that the size and length can be to make it look good. This is a personal opinion, but I think these look best when they are mid-thigh to right above the knee and have a more fitted look (the photo is an example of acceptable jorts and jean skirts). An overrated food trend was the hype around Crumbl cookies. I am unsure how long Crumbl has been a business but it was trendy this year and there is even one close to our area. I believe Crumbl is overpriced and is one of my last options for getting a treat. Of course, Crumbl isn't necessarily bad, just overrated. Overall, 2023 was a solid year in fashion and there were many trends that I thoroughly enjoyed. I like the trends of cargo, ribbons, square neck tops, good hoodies, adidas, uggs, and the overall streetwear, 2000's style that is making a major comeback in the fashion industry.
