Moon = Mood?

 A common misconception many people believe in that I simply do not is that our mood is affected by the changes in the moon. I have heard so many theories about the moon cycle affecting people and how we feel and act. I feel that the moon does not affect me whatsoever and if I had never heard of this theory I would have never even thought of this being a contributor to my mood swings. Although there are many factors that can contribute to my overall well-being and mood such as hunger, heat, clothes, noise, and environment, I do not think the moon affects me.

An article I found online states that "because the human body is about 70% water, humans experience tidal shifts caused by the moon's phases, just like Earth's oceans." This statement is then followed by a dramatic claim that "under a full moon, the occurrence of murder, suicide, aggravated assault, psychiatric emergencies, and fatal auto accidents increase dramatically." This is not a topic to take lightly because if this were true we would have serious precautions and security standards for these time periods. However, we watch full moons and the overall moon cycle rotate day by day, month by month, and year by year without giving it a thought of mind. So if this theory that we are affected by the moon were true we would be more informed on the cycle and be less ignorant of this "problem" as we are now. This is a wild myth that ultimately cannot be truly proven because every human is different and although it may have a slight effect on some people, I truly have never felt that the stages of the moon affect me.
